Second weed treatment announced |

The Lake Gaston Weed Control Council announces that the second application of public treated areas for noxious weeds began this week. This treatment application is for all identified sonar treatment areas. In addition to this notice, adjoining land owners will find posted on their boat docks a notice as to when the area was treated and other related information on swimming, fishing and irrigation. Anyone wishing to know if their property is near the treated areas, please visit www.prolakemgmt.com. Once on the Web page scroll down to the bottom and select Lake Gaston. This will show mapped treatment areas and the second phase schedule. Pro Lake Management is the selected applicator for the public areas. The firm’s Website will have up-to-date information on the treatment areas and the schedule. The Council is making every effort to keep the residents of Lake Gaston informed on the treatment program. The council says it has received a number of questions and comments from residents as to why their area has not been treated and how can they get on the schedule. The Council makes every effort to treat as many acres as possible with the funding it has. At best the Council estimates it will only be able to treat half of the infected acres on the lake this year. Anyone with concerns is encouraged to contact their county supervisors and commissioners to encourage them to continue to fund public treatment in their respective budgets. While many residents pay for private treatment of their shoreline it may not be clear to your representatives as to the amount of money individuals contribute to the wellness of the lake in addition to paying your taxes. The council appreciates all the efforts private citizens make to the betterment of the lake. Remember to contact Dominion Power for any private treatments.
