Professional Lake Management (PLM) announced the proposed weed treatment schedule for Lake Gaston last week.
According to PLM the proposed schedule has been approved by the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) Committee of the Lake Gaston Stakeholders Board. This is the first step prior to presenting the proposal to the Lake Gaston Weed Control Council.
It was anticipated that the final treatment plan and schedule would be approved at the weed control council’s meeting scheduled for Tuesday night, April 24.
The proposal calls for treating 16 areas of the lake.
The first Fluridone Application treatment will start on Monday, April 30. The schedule calls for the final treatment to be completed on Tuesday, July 30. Each area will be treated three times.
The TAG 2007 Treatment Site Recommendations use the following criteria for selecting sites to be treated:
• Areas of successful previous treatment
• Areas of high population that have severe weed infestation
• Treatment within each of the five surrounding counties as fairly apportioned as possible and
• Areas of public use and public access, including public boat ramps, public swim areas and dry hydrants.
According to the TAG Website the following sites are proposed for Fluridone treatment
• The Flats;
• Smith Creek, two sites;
• Hawtree
• Poplar Creek, two sites
• Stillhouse Branch
• Lyons Creek
• Hubquarter
• Lizzard Creek, three sites
• Pretty Creek
• Poe Creek
• Lees Creek
• Northpoint Cove
• Peahill creek, four sites (Dogwood Branch; Speckle Cove; Cold Spring Branch and Beaver Creek.
The final approved treatment plan will be on the Littleton Observer Website at http://www.littletonobserver.com/ as soon as it is approved.
