A Halifax County Deputy was forced to shoot and kill a dog after the animal attacked him on Roper Spring Road in Littleton.
Deputies Fontay Macon and Will Shaw were two of several deputies who responded to a call Friday, April 6 of a fight in progress, according to the sheriff’s department.
When they arrived and determined the fight was over, they continued investigating, going to some neighboring property of what the sheriff’s office called a “secondary party.”
During the walk between the homes, a pit bull ran off a porch and charged Macon. According to the sheriff’s department, Macon ordered the dog to stop, but the animal continued, slamming into his leg twice trying to bite the deputy. On the second strike, the dog knocked Macon to the ground.
Macon struck the dog with his arm and scrambled to his feet while the animal continued circling him, then he shot and killed the dog when it charged again.
Macon was not bitten and received only minor scrapes on his legs and arm, according to the sheriff’s department.
As of Monday no charged had been filed in the case.
