Domestic dispute nets charges

A Littleton man has been charged with kidnapping, discharging a firearm, and assault on a female after a New Year’s Day altercation in his home.

Richard Lee Britt, 43, was arrested by Halifax County deputies outside his Myrick Estates house after the deputies responded to a domestic assault call involving shots being fired.

Lt. Bruce Temple said Britt had been allegedly out drinking, then returned home, made some threats toward his spouse, then “He got a weapon and started discharging it.” Temple said he allegedly fired at walls and the ceiling, prompting his wife and their child to take cover inside the residence.

“At the time deputies arrived, he was actually leaving the house,” he said. The deputies apprehended him without incident. Temple said no one was injured.

Britt was officially charged and jailed with no bond and his court date has been set for Jan. 16.
