Homes in the Littleton/Lake Gaston area of Halifax County were impacted by a water main break in the Summit area of the county.  The break happened mid afternoon on Easter Sunday.

The Halifax County water Department reported that they were notified by citizens in the Summit area that they had no water.  By the time they responded they found water flowing across Route 158 at Deep Creek Rd.. Originally fifty or so customers were without water and several hundred had low water pressure.

When the repair crew, headed by Assistant Supervisor Bernard Pitchford, arrived at the scene they were able to repair the problem enough to allow all but a couple of houses to have water.

Pitchford was not sure why the pipe burst; he felt it may have been just additional pressure in the line situation.  He said he wasn’t sure how old the pipes in that area are but they are older than sixteen years.  For water pipes he said they are relatively new.

The repairs took about four hours.  The water pressure dropped for the entire area.  Water was restored to the water tower on Rt. 158, but complete pressure in the lines did no occur until after the problem was completely repaired.
