They walked 391 miles in 16 days to send a message to all who would listen; Through the winds, the rains, the hills, the blisters, the shin splints and the malady’s that those over fifty face these men made their statement. They arrived at the Lincoln Memorial on Sunday March 16 at 1500 hrs. (3 p.m.). Their mission was to provide a platform and focal point event for all Americans to show their support for our troops and military personnel. Their purpose for walking was to make all Americans aware that our nation needs to improve our ‘Resolve to Win’ and finish a very difficult task while understanding the strategic importance of winning in They don’t believe you can support the troops without supporting the war. They were willing to do what most people would never think of doing. They walked from the South Carolina/North Carolina border to the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in “I will say honestly, that we had hoped for more people at the Lincoln Memorial, but in truth, we were not prepared for more then the hundred or two people who were there. We have walked these miles to show our support for the Troops, the mission of the Troops and because we believe that our Nation needs to re-establish our National Will and Resolve to Win,” stated Carl Heerup on the resolve to Win blog. He added, “We have touched the lives of thousands of people and done what we believe God wanted us to do. The result and consequence of our effort are His measure. We are content that we have fulfilled this initial mission in our quest to foster our Nations Resolve to Win and need to Support our Troops properly. Our next step will be guided as our first steps have been.” The initial mission complete they are now contemplating what to do next. One thought was a follow-on march proposed by the Gathering of Eagles organization, Pentagon-to-Ground Zero (or vice-versa) to coincide with September 11. Their goal will continue to be to get more widespread participation, and the national attention they missed this time. Regardless of how others may feel they have the “Resolve to Win the war.” You can keep with Resolve to Win at vfwwebcom.org/resolvetowin. |
