NAACP Says ‘Let’s Be Heard!’ 

The Halifax County NAACP wants the county to be heard in the upcoming election.  They are promoting a ‘Let’s Be Heard’ program with a To-do list that includes voter registration, early voting, voting in the primary, and deadline for changing your party affiliation.  The facts are No Vote-No Voice! 

One of the highlights of educating county residents will be several Candidate Forums.   The Black Caucus will hold a forum on April 10th in Hollister.  For more information on place, time and other forums call 252-826-3017. 

The Turn Around-Umbrella of Unity, Inc. will hold a candidates forum on Tuesday, April 22nd at the Ivory Hill Baptist Church in the Medoc area and on Sunday, April 27th at Robinson Funeral Home in Littleton, NC. They are waiting for confirmation of an April 6th forum in Roanoke Rapids.  Please watch the newspapers for updates on forum.  All Turn Around forums will begin at 5 PM. The association reminds everyone of the dates they should be aware of they are: 1) Register to vote by April 11, 2008 (2) Early voting April 17th through May 3rd. (3) Vote in Primary Election - May 6, 2008. (4) Be aware that the deadline for change of party affiliation is also April 11th. The facts are No Vote-No Voice!  There are several opportunities for each of us to get our voice heard through our vote. 

They also provide the how to do portion of the list.  Such as, if you need to vote early for the May 6th Primary  you can do so at the Board of Elections at 10 N. King Street in Halifax, NC or call for further information at 252-583-4391.  They are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM until 5:00 PM. 

 The when to do starts with early voting on April 17th and runs through May 2nd.  The Board of Elections is open on Saturday, May 3rd from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM for early voting.  Same day voting and registration is offered during the early voting period with proper identification and proof of address.  For Absentee Ballots you must request for it now through April.  They must be received by the Board of Elections by May 5th at 5:00 PM.
