Junior firefighters help battle blaze

When two junior firefighters left Littleton last Sunday afternoon to take some sandwiches to firefighters working brush fires in the Hollister area, they never expected to get involved with the fight.

When they returned to the firehouse late Sunday night they were excited to relate how they were able to do their part in assisting to control the fire.

Ashley Myrick and Lauren Lesak returned to the firehouse with Assistant Chief Dale Bobbitt after helping on a fire in the Medoc Mountain area. Their first comment was that they wanted to get home and get out of the smoke smelling clothing they had on.

They related how they had assisted in putting out a fire on Highway 43 between Essex and Hollister.  Lesak even took some pictures of the firefighters with her cell phone.

They were assisting with one of six fires at the time that were burning in the Hollister area.

They were no sooner done telling their story than they were reminded that they had to go to school on Monday. Lesak is a senior at Warren County High School and Myrick is a junior at Halifax Academy

Lesak plans to further her interest in the outdoors when she attends North Carolina State in the fall and enrolls in their Forestry Service program at.
