FBI Imposter stops car in daylight

Sheriff’s Office seeks help

A female, driving on Justice Branch Road was pulled over in Halifax County by a vehicle with a blue light; she was then questioned by a man with “FBI” showing on his pocket.  The woman was questioned by the man, he then told her that he was not going to write her a ticket and she should “be careful.”

The incident happened between the city of Halifax and Enfield and was reported to the Halifax County Sheriffs Office.  The Sheriffs Office is investigating and has verified that this was not a local officer.

It was 11:30 a.m. last Wednesday, February 20 when the incident occurred.  The apparent imposter was driving a burgundy Nissan Altima with a blue light.  A thin built white male approximately 5’06’ tall, was wearing a suit with a “FBI” marking on the pocket.

The male had a brief conversation with the woman before he told her that he would not write her a ticket and to “be careful”. The male then walked back to his car.  In this case the suspect approached the car and found that the car was also occupied by children before having the brief conversation and leaving.

In a press release the sheriffs office stated, “All law enforcement vehicles initiating traffic stops are equipped with blue lights and siren. Anyone that feels as though they are being stopped by anyone other than a genuine officer is asked to call 911 to verify identity.”

They also stated, “At night time we would recommend stopping where there is a street light so that you can observe the approaching officer(s).”

If anyone knows of a person with access to this kind of vehicle or of this description, please call the Halifax County Sheriffs Office at (252) 583-1991 or Halifax County Crimestoppers at (252) 583-4444.
