The Littleton Woman’s Club (LWC) took first place in the North Carolina General Federation of Women’s Clubs Community Improvement Contest (CIC). This two-year effort was a joint project, involving the Littleton Beautification Committee, Littleton Woman’s Club,  Littleton Lion’s Club, the town employees of Littleton and many other individuals, who volunteered their time on the many initiatives.

Sally Hawfield, the wife of Littleton Mayor Mason Hawfield led a number of the initiatives, including restoring and placing the replica of Person’s Ordinary on Main Street, planting shrubs and flowers along Main Street, and decorating both the downtown area and main street with banners, street light seasonal decorations and a beautiful Christmas tree. Sally headed the Littleton Beautification Committee, which was involved in many of the above projects.

The Committee solicited money and volunteers to replace the trees along the downtown streets of Littleton with beautiful Crepe Myrtles, and led the effort to redo electricity so that the trees could be lighted for holiday seasons. These initiatives changed the face of Littleton. Sally is a member of the LWC. The LWC, with volunteers and contractors completed the restoration of Person’s Ordinary. The CIC project highlights the change that can be accomplished by organizations and volunteers working together for a common goal.
